Too many brothers are paying 20k for taxi rides within Nagoya and taxi drivers seem to think this is the standard fare today.

Please unite and pay only 10k for taxi rides within Nagoya and no more. Ojeks within Nagoya, please limit to 3k and no more. 10k for a short ride is more than fair!

If we all do this consistently, we can save a lot of money in Batam and put to better use when we are there!

Just imagine, in Jakarta where the cost of the vehicle is more expensive than Batam (duty free) the ride from the Idternational Airport to Thamrin / Kota is only about 25k plus toll. So, please don't pay more!

Bro, what you commented on Btm taxi fare, I agreed with you 100%.
But taxi ride in/from Jkt airport to kota for 25k plus toll???!!!
Even if you managed to flag down a BlueBird taxi (which can't operate in Airport because I think they don't have agreement to pick up guest there), they are the most honest and reasonable/cheapest taxi in Jkt, you'll have to pay by meter reading + Toll charges, around Rp.50-60k.

I asked some locals and the history of 20k rides in Nagoya started during the crisis of 97 some said when the Rupiah devalued very low at that time. However, when the crisis blew over and the RP recovered, we the stupid foreigners continued to pay the same price of 20k. Today, still many idiots continue to pay this 20k and that's why I have been doing my best to resist this wherever possible.

Hope you guys will do the same and pay no more than 10k in Nagoya town whenever you ride the taxi.

If we do this often enough regularly, the message will sink in for sure.

too true. but the cabbies always full of tricks. For instance, if u go to the carpark outside at Nagoya food court, they even put up a sign displaying "fixed" taxi fare prices and it says 20k for trips within Nagoya. The taxi will point to that sign when u bargain.

Most taxi rides in and around Nagoya is still Rp.10k. They may ask for Rp.20k when they pick up a "tourist". Just ask about price before boarding a taxi, and most of the time the driver will take your Rp.10k if you stand firm.
But, if you are taking a taxi late at night from a nite spot, especially the discos, they may have to charge you Rp.20k or more. This is because the driver will have to pay the "security" a fee for picking up pasangers from that nite spot.

I take Taxi all everyday.. though been to Batam only few times.
for a small kota like Nagoya!
based on my (jakarta) experience.. each journey within Nagoya
wouldn't cost you more than 10k!
on average.. point to point of less than 7min ride
if based on meters.. should be around 6-8k MAX!!!

I support Sassina!.. let's have a Campaign against 20K RIDE!!
C'mon..let's be a true blue Singaporean!!
Don't Over-Pay the TAXI DRIVERS!!
Let's be a true blue Singaporean!!
Can pay Prostitute 200k Tips.. but cannot offer your brother a beer!!
so..why should you overpay the drivers then ?

Well, the best we have done was 5k after reasoning with the fella and sometimes it works and 10k is alright.

What irks me is the request for 20k outside places such as A1 / Oki for a ride round the corner!

Also from outside the pubs at Lucys / Classics which is sometimes less than 2 km say to Pacific so, ask, offer and reject if these guys are unreasonable. Theres so many of them around competing for your business.

I once had a joker ask me for 20 k from Classics Pub to my hotel Prima Asia - about 500 metres ride! I walked back.

If going to booking join, do some R & D and find out where these places are located, take taxi / ojek to the nearest hotel, drop off and send them away & then, go shopping for your cewek. You say a ton and tip the ladies better and you get better all round service from them and if they have bad service ; tell them so and tip them 20 - 30k maximum.

If good, they get all the taxi commissions I save plus what I would give them anyway!

I have travelled to Batam for business. Better 'kwai-kwai' and pay. They want money, just give to them.

You don't know what these taxi drivers are up to. They might gang up to rob you or beat you up if you do not comply with them.

Worst still, yo may be "Ke Si Yi Xiang"!

The choice is yours. My pal & I do visit Batam about once every two weeks and so far, nobody has ever threatened nor tried to beat us up for barganing on taxi.

If you have jumped in , got to the place and then start bargaining, then, its too late, you are wrong - just pay up.

Before you agree on the ride, you are perfectly right and inoffensive to bargain till agreed - you do not have to riducule or curse them - do it nicely and nobody will beat you up.

However if you are really kiasi and kiasu, my advice is to stay at home!

The big bad outside world is definately no place for the meeky double K froggies who will sadly be better off in the safe comfort of their own familiar little well.
