If you are driving in Malaysia, do take note of the advice below. Please
pass this on to your friends.

Subject: Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the Road

It would appear that this technique has reached Malaysia from Indonesia.
Life here is getting more like in Indonesia these days. This story which
was circulated to me reminds me of the traps set in certain parts of
Jakarta by robbers. Some people have lost their lives over this.

They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood
with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. If they
get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything
in their cars, wallets, anything valuable and sometimes their lives.

Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the Road - a new trap set by
Robbers. This incident happened some where in KL and forwarded to me by
A friend. This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers
Lying around in the middle of the road. Without giving it much thought, he
Drove pass the stack of papers. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks
and stones beneath the papers!! Wanting to know the damage to his car, he
stopped to check. Need I say more? The moment he got out of his car, he
was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings.

Just imagine what would have happen if this had happen to a
girl/woman...

So folks, please be careful, do not stop when you're driving alone at
night no matter what! Avoid driving over the papers if you see newspapers
lying on the road, this could be a new trick for the desparate fraternity out
there!!

Gigantic,

U often drive to Johor?
My offices are in johor and i travel to johor daily.....maybe we can meet up for coffee one of these days? PM me your contact? :)

Well, i always drive direct to my intended destination, with no stopping halfway. Even at petrol kiosks, i ask the attendant to pump petrol for my car, i stay inside the car. When come out of the car, i look around before i open the car door. So far so good.........

No choice has to drive in....my business & office in Johor. Actually many people together also can be robbed....the robbers has more people ha ha, or they have weapons.

My office in johor had been broke into twice in 6 months....that is more i am worried about. And each time they broke in, they shit inside my office! For all bros out there who do businesses or who has offices in Malaysia, pls buy insurance, buy insurance as much as possible. Also, remember to chase aggressively for the claims, else these insurance companies take own sweet time to pay back your claims (if any).

My advise to you is, NEVER STOP. How much does a trrim cost. But your life may be at stakes if you stop. I would continue to drag my car and go on till a place where there is ppl.
And always remember to lock your door while driving. Ppl might just open your door and hop it while you are at the red light. They came in from the back and put a knife on your neck and thats it.

Cheong.....but must always be careful.

Somehow, I always got this feeling that Malaysia is one of the most dangerous place in south east asia.
I travelled to Vietnam and Thailand often, but seems like they don't have such problem. I guess, they know that their main income is from tourists.

Hi Bro,

I actually doubt the first post. Sounds a bit like those rumours circulating on the Internet. If robbers want to make sure you stop, they would have put a piece of wood with nails underneath the newspapers. :D and not just stones. Like Malaysian roads don't have potholes everywhere, how to stop for every pothole you run over?

Not that I am calling gigantic_tk an alarmist but there have been many of these emails circulating around; some are real but some are just stories.

Malaysia isn't that bad..... :(

Anyway, one more tip for those driving around Malaysia. If you have valuables in the car, keep them out of sight. For example, if you have a notebook, keep it on the car floor, don't put it on the seat. There have been cases where cars stopping at traffic lights had the windows smashed and the robbers grabbed away the notebooks. The robbers were on motorcycles and they got away before the drivers even realised what happened. Stolen notebook and broken car window. Double whammy.

PS.
mykhel13, this happened in Subang Jaya, not JB. :D

Notebooks, handphones and other valuables left in the cars are also very common in Singapore, and are subjected to theft. But here normally the
owner left it visibly in his vehicles parked in the muliti storey carpark inside shopping mall. There are quite a few reported cases aredi.

I might be a bit 'alarmist' as per bros dathinman mail but is not my intention to tell bros here not to visit Malaysia as per bros mykhel13 msg. Mine is merely a precautionary measure to alert forumers who cheongs in Malaysia, especially those who drive in to JB. Things has happened and it is merely to alert bros ONLY.

I agree.....it is better to be more caution no matter where you are in.

My office is located at Taman Molek.....stike a bell to anyone? Frankly speaking, which shop/office is broke into no one will know, only police, victims and the thieves will know....unless published in newspapers etc, then everybody will know. However, not all thefts/robberies etc will be reported.
But this is what actually happen to me with regard to the office broke in twice in 6 months......... :(

Talking about cars jamming the roads.....well, i always try to rush back before 5-7pm because there would be a serious jam after that. You know why? :D

No offence here, but hope all bros here to be safe and sound. Then we can cheong & enjoy more.

Now most petty crimes in malaysia (ie snatch thefts,break-ins etc) are mostly committed by illegals (mostly indonesians), with some local drug addicts getting in the act. The tidak apa and relac attitude of the local police and various law enforcement agencies are as much to blame as the bolden criminals for the high crime rates in KL and JB. Malaysia is of course not as safe as Singapore but neither is it so dangerous as the media in Singapore made it out to be. On any given day, I am sure JB is safer than Batam and KL as safe if not safer than say Jarkarta. PM Abdullah is clamping down on crime (in the process vice also :( ) Let's hope we all have a safer enviroment to cheong in the near future.

Something to share here, received it via email today. It is up to bros whether to believe or not.

Subject: Be aware please read!

This actually happened to a Man not a woman
recently in KL. Imagine: You
walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and
get inside. Then you
lock all your doors, start the engine and shift
into REVERSE, and you
look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space
and you notice a piece of paper
stuck to the middle of the
rear window.
So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and
jump out off your car to
remove that paper (or whatever it is that is
obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car, that is when
the car-jackers appear
out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off.
Your engine was
running, you would have your purse in the car and
they practically mow
you down as they speed off in your car.
BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING
USED. Just drive away and
remove the paper that is stuck to your window
LATER, and be thankful
that you read this email.
I hope you w ill forward this to friends and
family especially to women!
A purse contains all identification, and you
certainly do NOT want
someone getting your
home address. They already HAVE your keys !!!

Speaking of stolen laptops... I'm one of the unlucky ones. Happened a while back tho. 2 month old laptop.. left under the car seat. Ran out of ciggies so decided to run down to get some (and this was in a shopping complex carpark full of people!) Left the car for not more than 5 mins.. came back.. right rear passenger window smashed. Laptop bye bye. And here comes the really 'tu lan' part. Found out I forgot to lock the car!!! Was really cursing and swearing at the stupid thieves. At least laaa check if car locked or not.. laptop stolen never mind. Broken window damn chialat.. coz no stock for a week!!! Thing is.. I guess if you have laptops.. it's better to carry it around with you than to leave it in the car.. no matter where in the car.

I guess crime occurs everywhere in the world. It's really arse luck if kenna. Coz I believe that if it occurs to someone.. it's that someone's fault for not taking the necessary precautions. Just like my laptop.. I dun blame the thieves.. I blame myself coz I shouldn't have 'tempt' them in the first place.

Ahhh just my 2 cents worth on a hot friday evening :) and pondering.. to go bonk or just go parteh and risk kenna raided hehe

The car park at holiday plaza is also very dangerous. My friend's brother parked his new Honda Civic at the basement and then went shopping, buy VCD and makan. When he returned, what a shock he had, to find that the four rims (including wheels) are gone. The car was rested on bricks!!! I almost laugh when I first heard it, but apparently such things happen in Singapore too. Seems like nothing is impossible.

Anyway thanks for your advice, I old aredi, lanpa too heavy, no strength to climb across the railings. I better walk thru the underpass and be extra vigilant, further more I the most will bring along S$200 for cheonging session there to minimise losses.

Those who drive there better bring in more $$$ just in case to pay for any other undefined summons.
